Art journaling while doing Ayurvedic Panchakarma (cleanse)

While I was in India to rejuvenate at an ayurvedic clinic/ashram doing panchakarma (cleanse), I was also planning to paint, journal and scribble. What I didn’t plan was that I had a cold/cough for two weeks and couldn’t start the treatments during that time. At first I was a very disappointed but then realized that it gave me more time for emotional and mental cleansing with the help of art journaling, and a good head-start to keep this creative habit going during panchakarma also. Just an hour more or less every day to scribble, paint and write and enjoy the process and see where it takes me.

What I learned was that it wasn’t so easy to not jump to conclusions or figure some meaning. It brought some lightness and fun into my day, and it took some courage to keep going during dark days when the paintings didn’t return such pretty results. Still I kept going. It felt like an act of self care to spend even just a little time scribbling and leaving a mark on the paper, exposing and honoring my creative self. It was very nourishing to my artist soul. I was surprised in how many different ways creativity found its way onto the paper. I also can clearly see how the paintings followed my moods and impression of the day.

I hope this inspires you to also keep an art journal and scribble or leave a creative mark on paper and see how you enjoy it and what you learn from it. Let me know in the comments below…

  • Beautiful, deep work! It inspires me to start doing art journaling now that I have more time in my life. What medium do you suggest starting with? Chalk, color pencils or crayons? Maybe all of them? A different one on different days? Thank you so much for your wonderful posts! Namaste! Shanti Shivani

    • I am so glad you got inspired Shanti. I would suggest to start very simple, with materials that you feel most comfortable with. You can then experiment with more once you got the momentum going. The secret I feel is to keep going. It’s like meditation, not always good but then looking back there is so much to learn from and so much insights to gain. Let me know how I can help you.

    • I would suggest experimenting with what intrigues you. Though the chalk would need to be sprayed to be fixed so it won’t smudge. Have fun!

  • Creativity was certainly flowing through you during this time. Would love to go back to India with Loa again.
Hope you and George have a blessed holiday season.
